Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?

Texas Holdem is simply about people and position. All experienced Texas Holdem enthusiasts agree that seating in no limit Holdem is fundamentally significant. Showing your hole cards in last spot can be a whole lot more profitable than in early poker position. This is because a lot more info is collected right before acting.
e.g., I was playing a $1-$2 no limit cash game at a local casino. I came in with 2, 9 unsuited on the dealer marker, so I could partake in some excitement. Flop came down A-A-4. A bettor in starting position laid a $15 bet. 2 entrants drop out and it was my turn. I should have dropped out, but something felt a bit odd. I identified this player as a weak-tight person, and typically if he had the number one hand he would just check, so I called.
The turn arrived with a 7, meaning it was a A-A-4-7. My challenger laid an additional bet of $20. I deliberated a bit, but took a chance to re-raise an additional $30thirty dollars on top of his $20. He dropped out and I won the chips.
Betting at last spot gives you an insight into where you are positioned by observing how entrants carry oneself and bet. On the flip side, people at starting spot may use their poker position to check-raise the last positioned competitors and corner them later at the end. In Hold’em, each spots, late and early should be wagered cautiously.
