Omaha Hi Low: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha/8 begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting follows where players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same notion in almost every poker game.
A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult initially, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha hi-low offers an exciting array of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many individuals shooting for the high, and several shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
