Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Wednesday, 25. September 2019

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
