Monday, 18. November 2019
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
