Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players in the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then.
