Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players can get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem complex at first, after a few hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of the game with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha High-Low provides an exciting array of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, along with several battling for the low hand.
