Pai Gow Poker is a modern game with old origins. Based on the old Chinese tile game and the current American version of poker, Pai Gow poker combines the far east with the west in an excellent game for new gamblers.
Pai Gow is a poker game that pits the player against the dealer, not like the majority of other poker games that gamblers wager with other players. By gambling against the dealer, beginning players do not need to worry about other, more experienced people winning their money.
One more Pai Gow edge is the generally slow game play, newcomers should be able to take their time and plan while not having to make quick selections.
It’s also easier to participate in for an extended time with just a small amount of money since, to not win, each of your hands needs to be lower than each of the casino’s hands.
Pai Gow is played with 53 cards; the familiar 52-card basic deck and one joker. The player is assigned seven cards faces showing and the dealer is dealt seven cards face down.
A 5 card hand and one two card hand must be put together from the seven cards dealt, the 5 card hand must be better than the 2 card hand. To succeed, a player needs both of his hand totals to be higher than the houses.
